Now is the time, more that ever, to support our Porongurup businesses. The shut down of our regional tourism and wine industry will have a far reaching impact on our local community for a long time to come. Please support our businesses now and help keep them open for the future. Buy wine directly from the winery rather than from retailers. Many of the Porongurup Wineries has special offers and free delivery. 📷 the wine enthusiast #porongurup #plantagenetwa #greatsouthernwa #wawine #australianwine #wawinegrowers

Swipe left for finish product. So before I pass out from drinking red merlot wine. I just wanna post my creation from nothing to something, since we can't go buy another pork in the supermarket. I decided to use our menudo cut pork in the fridge and make it a sizzling sisig. Somehow it kinda taste good but it's kinda hard to chew coz it was cut in to small size. But it's still good and it's still food. I'll try again next time. . . . Keep safe everyone! Ps I'm very drunk right now. Hehe

A local bke group "Bendigo to Kilmore rail trail" practising physical distancing, set off on a ride from Byronsvale this week. It was going to be a much larger group but new laws meant 3 guys & a gal! Actually I didn't get to go on ride. Between spraining my right ankle in our gym and saying goodbye to my" right hand lady" Narelle, (another Corona job loss stat)😥😥. _ We settled for a spot in the the sun.post ride. _ The bikes & their riders will be back! We hope Narelle will come back too when business gets going again! _ #cyclying #stayingwell #freshair #goodhealth #mentalhealthawareness #gym #workout #beautifulday #autumn🍁 #moutainbike #winetourism #seeaustralia #victoria #visitbendigo #australianwine #oldvines #luxuryaccommodation #byronsvalebendigo

Things that make me smile. Day 6. WINE! My dad taught me 2 important things, rock n roll and booze! 😂 I was drinking good red wine from an early age and it’s been a huge love in my life. Mar 28, 2020

How can I laugh tomorrow when I can’t smile today? I can hear you but I can’t hear you. Your lips move, but I can’t hear what you are saying. You only come through in waves. My, my! Hey hey! The 2014 Mount Camel Shiraz won’t be forgotten. Because once you are gone, you can’t come back! Lucky we have 5 bottles left 😉. The king is gone but not forgotten. Old man look at my life (Sean’s life) I’m a lot like you. Old man look at my life, 24 and there’s so much more. Run around the same old town, it doesn’t mean that much to me. If you can guess the songs we are listening to tonight, then you will understand #vww. So when you close your eyes drinking this wine and are listening to such classic music, knowing this was made in Heathcote, you could imagine yourself being in the Barossa or the Clare Valley. To the wine. 15.4 % - finally. Finally we are not drinking a mass produced, commercial, lacklustre wine as per our previous reviews. We are drinking a wine, that was made by wine makers who put their heart and souls in to their craft - and boy does it show. A #vww whisky wine. Smooth and balanced. American oak that has the same punch and presences as John Wayne - this wine is the Duke! Say no more. Bought from the cellar door ( peregrineridge) We were greeted by Sue Kerrison, and enjoyed the picturesque view from the winery. 5/5 🦄 back to the music now! Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2004 From the Cellar 🍷 Balanced aged Shiraz. A lot lighter than other Bin 28 vintages and over time this has really mellowed. I would say 2004 won’t develop any further and has fully matured. Maybe a little past it’s peak but still a beautiful wine. Dark chocolate, leathery, fine tannins with great length. I better drink the other bottles I have...simple... 🍷 Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend from #barossavalley #McLarenVale #langhornecreek #padthaway . . . . . #australianwine #barossa #barossawine #penfolds #penfoldswine #bin28 #cellar #cellardoor #cellars #winecellar #stayhome #stayhealthy #winery #winetasting #sat #winetime #saturdaywine #danmurphys #alcohol #winephotography #saturdayvibes #bottleopener

Australian Sparkling Wine @ home.

We asked Tim Coelli of #TwistedGumWines which of is ‘wine babies’ he would take with him if he was stranded on a 🏝deserted island (which is pretty much all of us in Aussie self-isolation)... . His choice: Twisted Gum Wines Single Vineyard Dry Grown Granite Belt Shiraz 2016 🍷 His reason: “The 2016 season was one of the best seasons for red wines in the Granite Belt this decade.  This classy savoury Shiraz absolutely shines when matched with char grilled steak and thick cut potato chips.” 🤤!! . He describes it as: An inky Shiraz featuring a rich palate of black cherries and dark forest fruits with a touch of pepper spice – yum! 😋 . Normally $35 per bottle but reduces to $31.50 per bottle in a straight or mixed six-pack.. . 📦 DELIVERY SPECIAL: Twisted Gum Wines is now offering free delivery on all wines to anywhere in Australia due to COVID-19 situation. . Mar 28, 2020

Tonight I drink ‘D’, a wine that pays tribute to winemakers passed on that carved their path in the wine industry before us 🙏🏻🍇 • ‘Dead Winemakers Society’ Dolcetto 2017 by Alpha Box & Dice is sourced from two separate vineyards in Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills 🇦🇺 Dolcetto originates from Piemonte in Italy where it ripens early on higher and cooler sites, and is especially valued by locals and growers who can make wine from this grape first while waiting to harvest Barbera and Nebbiolo 🇮🇹 • This is a well crafted Aussie Dolcetto, at once silky in texture and structured with savoury, chocolatey tannins, medium but bright acidity keeping the wine fresh and lively, notes of dark plum, cherry and strawberry, cinnamon and black pepper, sage and dried herbs, and that pleasantly bitter finish I love about #Dolcetto ❤️🍷 • Alpha Box & Dice are embarking on an ‘Alphabet of Wine’, each letter representing an individual winemaking project that showcases the diverse styles and varieties of #SouthAustralianWine regions. Every wine is made at their McLaren Vale winery using small batch, minimal intervention and #veganfriendly techniques. • Whether it’s just a bottle, a case or more, you can still order wine from alphaboxdice and shipping is free Australia wide. They also throw in a free bottle of Prosecco with every first purchase (use code ‘BUBBLES’) 🥂🍾 Let’s continue to #supportlocalbusiness 🌏👍🏼 • • • • • #buylocal #australianwine #aussiewine #adelaidehillswine #drinkaussiewine #supportaussiewinemakers #mclarenvale #alphaboxdice #redwine #redwinelover #winelover #southaustralianwinelover #winelovers #winerylovers #winegirl #wineenthusiast #womenwholovewine #wineo #winebabe #wineblogger #winegram #winestagram #winesofaustralia #australianwineries #knowyourwinemaker

Mar 28, 2020

Australian Wine Wally is 5 years old this weekend. What a journey it is. I stated then that I was on a journey to learn and discover Australia's best wine. What I have learnt is, "The more I learn, the less I know". I can say the Australian wine industry's journey is only just beginning. Many emerging regions means the with Quality we know and Love, the future is endless. We are the quiet achievers. Only now being realised. So here's one of my favourite photos taken when camping and enjoying a Clare Valley Riesling. So tonight I am raising a glass and toasting the next 5 years (whilst maintaining social distancing). Thank you for your support and feedback.

Mar 28, 2020

*Events in The Wine Loop in 2020…* Following Thursday’s update, the face-to-face events which were due to start after vintage will hopefully be back in the second half of the year- just as soon as we are safely able to do so. In the meantime, a new website is on its way, with an exciting line up of new and familiar winemakers who you will be able to meet down the track. The website will be packed with more interactive info and profiles of the producers who we hope to see in The Wine Loop in both Melbourne and Hobart later this year. The new site will also feature winemakers who are available for exclusive events for 14 – where we’ll match a winemaker with your group’s interests. Something to consider if you are thinking of ideas for later in the year. And when the time is right, look out for a special showcase that has been in the planning - focused on the recovery for the small producers who have been impacted by the summer’s bushfires and smoke taint. Meanwhile, keep an eye out for the first of our 2020 winemaker vintage updates - starting in Tasmania with Greer Carland from quietmutiny Looking forward to seeing you in The Wine Loop again soon. Stay safe out there. Karen 🍷 #winemaker #wine #melbourneevents #thewineloop #australianwineries #melbournerestaurants #australianwine #tasmanianwine domainesimha

STAFF PICK 🍇 There are some serious advantages to working at a winery! Here I am (Amanda, the Marketing Manager) standing in our stunning Hexham vineyard with a glass (and bottle!) of our 2018 Equilibrio Chardonnay last week. I’m not going to claim to be an authority on wine but this one is seriously good, and here is a review from Stuart Knox for therealrvw who can describe it’s characteristics so much better than me... . (Pssst, you can buy a dozen of these right now at 15% off!) . “Touch of smoke over crisp apple fruit. That crispness carries across the palate with great acid drive, layers of smoke, roast nuts and a touch of ripe pear keeping interest high. Line and length carry long and a pleasing nuttiness lingers long afterwards. 97 Points” ~ March, 2020 stuartknox73 #SoumahWines #SoumahEquilibrio #SoumahChardonnay #SoumahTeam #therealreview

A little amphorae study whilst staying home. *2018 brashhiggins ‘NDV’ showing lovely red fruit, savoury spice & graphite minerality. Lovely soft tannin structure but the acid is energetic & really opens up the fruit on the palate. *2018 #brunoduchene ’Odin’ was a mystery, really needed some air to coax out the nuances from its dense core of dark cherry, plum, liquorice & earthy/leathery flavours. 2005 DEL RIOS CHARDONNAY- What an absolute surprise. Luscious butterscotch, biscuit, honey suckle, yeast. Look at that golden colour. Not oily or fat, there’s still a clean finish with a touch of linear structure through the back of the mouth. Such an unexpected surprise, but should expect nothing less from a well produced aged Chardonnay. I’ve got no problems isolating on the balcony in the sun with this one today. Hey

In true Penfolds fashion we went where the best fruit took us... and in this vintage that was Henry, Tasmania and the Adelaide Hills. These 3 regions represent some of the best cool climate areas in Australia for growing Pinot Noir. The resulting wine is bright and vibrant with red cherry, cranberry and bramble fruit supported by fine grained tannins and subtle toasty notes from judicious use of French Oak. 95 Points from Andrew Caillard MW and the next evolution of this great Pinot! #penfolds #bin23 #pinotnoir #2018 #wine #redwine #henty #victoria #tasmania #adelaidehills #australianwine #frenchoak #instawine #whatsinyourcellar #95points

A pick from one of our first cellar door visits to hentleyfarm - don’t see a lot of Zinfandel here, but is most common in California and also known as Primitivo in southern Italy! 🇺🇸 🇮🇹 . I was anxious what this would look like but the cracking 2012 vintage shines through. Deep primary black fruits are singing, robust and long in flavour. There is some spice and a hint of savoury, earthy notes that reminded me of a cool climate Victorian shiraz. Delish! 😋 . 🍷 2012 Hentley Farm Zinfandel 🍇 Barossa Valley, South Australia 💰$40 (current vintage) . #wine #wineblog #winelover #instawine #hentleyfarm #barossavalley #barossa #zinfandel #barossadirt #australianwine #luxurywine #finewine #wineo #winetasting #winelover #vino #redwine #winegeek #wineo #winetime #wineoclock #TIA #chizlyf #gtwine #weddingvenue

2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, Victoria A favourite comic book of mine growing up was the tales of Asterix and Obelix. My absolute favourite though was Asterix & Cleopatra. In this story, my Gaulish heroes were recruited to support Edifis in the construction of a magnificent palace for the Cleopatra, the Queen of Ancient Egypt. Not surprisingly, they become infatuated with Cleopatra, proclaiming she had the most magnificent nose in the land. What I did not know in my youth was that this most magnificent of noses was not just a nose of beauty, it was a nose that was regaled across the Ancient lands for Cleopatra’s ability to sniff and judge the wines proffered to her. Cleopatra’s key skill was her ability to classify a Pinot Noir, much like my bride, from ten paces. The Giant Steps Pinot Noir from Yarra Valley met with my bride’s sniff of approval and I am certain, Cleopatra would agree. The 2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir is a blend from single vineyard sites across the Yarra Valley in Victoria. The colour is a bright light crimson that once poured into a large glass, appeals greatly allowing for the nose to shine. The nose, as sniffed by my Cleopatra, presents perfumed rose petals with red fruits and cherries that appeal immediately with little teasing from the glass. Tease some more and there are savoury and earthy notes with touches of dusty cedar influences that add complexity and charm as escribed on the parchment of flax. The palate has the red fruits that are gloriously elegant with a silky texture that expertly entwines the savoury and earthy flavours. There is complexity, there is attractiveness, and there is a wonderful length to the palate that excited my Cleopatra and no doubt would have excited the Cleopatra of ancient times. This is the last note for 2019. Do not fear, Wine of the Week will return in February 2020. I wish you all season’s greetings and thanks for your feedback and responses across the last year. #giantstepswine #giantstepspinotnoir #steveflamsteed steve_flamsteed #yarravalleywine #yarravalleypinotnoir giantstepswine #unexpurgatedwinecode #winecodebreaker #aussiewines #aussiewine #australianwine

2018 Kalleske Greenock Shiraz, Barossa Valley, South Australia A soloist performing in a dance recital I recently attended evoked a strong emotional response from the audience. A review published thereafter declared the performer “tossed it off with casual ease”. What a great compliment to both the choreographer and performer as in the end it was a joint effort. And so it is with the vineyard manager and the vigneron. Let the grapes do the talking is the catch cry but all wine crafters will have a stylistic influence. This is not a bad thing for this is why we buy certain wines. Always a combination of place (or places where multi vineyard or region) and style where the grapes (or artist) shine at their brightest. The 2018 Kalleske Greenock is a single vineyard Shiraz from the Barossa Valley in South Australia. It is a deep dark red-black in colour, splashing brightly setting the stage alight for the performance to begin. The nose is an array of blackberries, blueberries, plums, violets and spices. Quite herbal too with coffee, liquorice and charcuterie that teases with the emotions. The palate displays fruit that appears more prominent yet more restrained than prior years. Coffee beans and dark chocolate notes mingles with dusty oak nuances. A savouriness sprinkles the stage floor adding a depth of character much as lighting can place a highlight on a difficult sequence of steps. A structurally pleasing and appealing palate with velvety tannins and a lengthy finish that will leave you thinking the team at Kalleske tossed off this year’s release with casual ease. kalleske #kalleskewines #barossavalleywine #shiraz #barossashiraz #greenockshiraz #kalleskegreenockshiraz #aussiewine #aussiewines #australianwine #redwine #redwine #winesofinstagram #wineoftheday #unexpurgatedwinecode #winecodebreaker #kennethtindall tindallkenny

2017 Unico Zelo Taboo Merlot Adelaide Hills, South Australia A taboo is an implicit prohibition on something that is perhaps too sacred for ordinary people. Now, I classify myself as an ordinary person so I discovered the wine was labeled as Taboo, it was with trepidatious hesitation that I sought to purchase it. And, worse still, it was a Merlot. So, how do you approach a taboo labelled Merlot on International Merlot Day? Be extraordinary and give it a go. The 2017 Unico Zelo Taboo is a Merlot from the Adelaide Hills region in South Australia. A dark cerise in colour flashes brightly and alluringly. A nose that was far from ordinary with a nice perfumed lift of red fruits. I secretly loved the complexity of the nose with its touches of spice, fennel, cloves, sage and bay leaf nuisances. On the palate, there were a series of lovely red fruits along with a savoury complexity that was rounded out by its soft velvety tannins. A delicious persistence that makes this taboo a taboo in name only. #unicozelowines #unicozelotaboo unicozelo #adelaidehillswine #merlot #unexpurgatedwinecode #winecodebreaker #aussiewine #aussiewines #australianwine #redwine #winesofinstagram #wineoftheday #redwine

2017 Gentle Folk Wines Tiersmen Syrah, Mount Barker, South Australia What does turtle soup taste like? Shock! Horror! I hear you say. If you were around in the 1700s and well to do, you would be able to tell us and you might say it is somewhere between veal and lobster. For us today, we can gain a sense of this through a concoction called mock turtle soup. Created in the 1800s as a cheaper imitation, the ingredients are readily available today. Source a head of a calf, scald off the hair and boil until the horn is tender. Slice then add the brains diced, juice of an onion, herbs, Madeira, stock and oysters chopped to stand for an hour on the simmer before serving. The question then becomes; what do you serve with mock turtle soup? My go to is Adelaide Hills Syrah. The 2017 Gentle Folk Wines Tiersmen Syrah is from Mount Barker in South Australia that straddles the Adelaide Hills district. It was a dark cerise in colour that glistened brightly, somewhat like the simmering broth of mock turtle soup that I had under the stove light. The nose had early season plums with soft white peppery notes and a hint of cardamom that blended harmoniously with the herbal aromas of the soup. Then there was just a hint of sappiness that balanced quite nicely against the juice of the onion and Madeira as it simmered away. All this flowed through to the palate where there was a funkiness really appealed. It contrasted nicely against the oysters and their juice. Lean plums, blackberries and the spices were delivered on a lightly textural palate with a mouthfeel that was somewhere between veal and lobster. A lengthy persistence that left me wanting more as well as providing ample time to knock another batch of mock turtle soup. #gentlefolkwines gentlefolkwine #gentlefolktiersmen #syrah #adelaidehillswine #mockturtlesoup #aussiewine #aussiewines #australianwine #redwine #unexpurgatedwinecode #winecodebreaker #wineoftheday #shiraz #winesofinstagram

2018 Spinifex Papillon Grenache Cinsault Barossa Valley, South Australia Spring has well and truly sprung in our Southern climes. One of the signature images of this time of year is the emergence of butterflies. The hungry caterpillars have now transformed and left their cocoons and can be seen fluttering on the gentle Spring time breezes. This is a time of year that calls for soft and elegant wines that match the coolish evenings of the warming days. And with the flush of blushing blooms and wafting butterflies, it is without question, the prettiest time of the year. The 2018 Spinifex Papillon is a blend of the Rhone Valley grapes Grenache and Cinsault from the Barossa Valley in South Australia. It is a lovely bright purple red that is perhaps one of the prettiest colours you might find on a colour palate. The nose too is pretty with a perfume lift accompanied by rose petals, herbs and soft spices. The palate is soft and elegant and without question a pretty wine. The rose petals present as rose water and there are red fruits, a touch of gamey meats and charcuterie. Light and pretty tannins deftly play with the senses leaving you fluttering for more. . #spinifexwines spinifexwines #barossavalleywine #aussiewine #aussiewines #winesofinstagram #redwine #australianwine #wineoftheday #unexpurgatedwinecode #winecodebreaker
