We all have to figure out what works in our families. Sometimes meal times are really hard, especially for young children with short attention spans. There are slightly different ideas as to what children can handle, but it seems researchers agree on around 2-3 minutes up to five minutes per year. So a 3 year old might be able to sit for about 6 to 15 minutes. It's helpful to note this, because sometimes we have lofty, yet unreasonable expectations for our children. Regardless, if mealtimes are a struggle, and your kiddo wants to constantly get up, you might try a few different things to help them AND you! If they will only stay at the table for 5 minutes, you could start setting a timer for 7 minutes and letting them know they can get up at that point. As they are more able to do that, gradually increase the time until they reach their age appropriate upper limit. Remind them they don't have to eat, but they need to be a part of the family. You can play family games, allow them to stand, try a different seat or seating arrangement, play music. You might offer for them to bring a small toy or some paper and a crayon to draw. While some of these things are slightly distracting, they may also be helpful and allow for a more peaceful meal. They do distract from the food but don't require complete enmeshment, such as watching TV. And for a child who struggles to eat, a slight distraction might help take the pressure off food and get more comfortable. If your family meals are going well, I'm not suggesting you start throwing in distractions. ~ CHIMICHURRI ~ . Chimichurri is an Argentinian sauce that is light, fresh and full of flavour. It is made from fresh herbs, traditionally parsley, coriander and oregano, which are mixed with red wine vinegar, olive oil and either garlic, red onion or shallots (or a combination of them all), as well as some chilli. . We had this Chimichurri sauce on some marinated and grilled chicken skewers. It would also work really well on beef, lamb, grilled fish or even potatoes and salad. . Fresh herbs are a great way to add flavour and fragrance to a variety of meals in place of seasonings such as salt. Herbs are rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties, protecting against a range of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. . So next time you have half a bunch of whatever herb hanging out in your fridge waiting to go bad, use it, add it to a salad, make some Chimichurri or pesto, your body will thank you for it.

Christmas baking has begun 🎄⛄️❄️🎅🏻 I made these with 10g of thin strips of jus_rol pastry (each) (2) or 38cals wrapped around skewers with small strips of raw bacon cooked in the oven on 190 for 15 mins then I added small triangles of 30% less fat cheese to make stars (small amount of hexa) to the top of the skewers. One important reason to shed some body fat. Your knees and elbows will thank you. Most of us has heard of osteoarthritis. A disease which we lose cartilage and slowly destroy the bones of our joints. Or in other words our bones become like two rocks grinding against each other. The problem is most of us don't think about this disease as preventable as most of us think it is normal, beachhead it’s so common in our older populations. Like most chronic illnesses, osteoarthritis is a vicious cycle. - Your joints hurt, so you move less. - Moving less means your joints don’t get loaded. - Less joint loading means muscle weakness. - Muscle weakness means force doesn’t get cushioned correctly. - Less cushion means the condition worsens. - More osteoarthritis means more pain. - And, onwards, we circle the drain. The point I'm trying to get across is that obesity makes it much more likely that you’ll get osteoarthritis. It isn’t just that heavier people put more weight on their joints, and those joints then degrade over time. It’s also that there seems to be a relationship between the presence of excess fat tissue and inflammation. Thus, osteoarthritis probably comes from a combination of excess joint loading plus the inflammatory chemical and hormonal environment that having too much body fat creates.

If u know u know... chop 3onions into pot & pour in enough oil to fry onions sprinkle in some whole cumin, once onions have turned lovely golden brown add in 1 kg lamb meat u can use mix meat leg r shoulder, add in 2tsp minced ginger/garlic, pour in lil bit of water mix cover cook on low till almost done, add in salt chilli powder to ur taste, 1heap tsp dhanna/jeeru powder, 1tsp garam masala, 1level tsp turmeric, 1/4tsp tandoori powder, 1heap tsp paprika powder, mix cover cook further 15min on low heat, liquidise 1 tin tomato pour that in with 1Tbs tomato purée cover cook 5minutes, add in 2 to 3 cups water depends how soupy u want your preference, add in half fried potatoes I used 2, cover cook till lovely glossy lil bit thick gravy forms, switch off chop in coriander lots of it! Want comfort food tonight? Using a chicken breast tenderise to thin out slightly. Fill with semi-dried tomatoes, a generous amount of chopped parsley ( a good bunch), sliced feta and and shaved Parmesan. Roll chicken breast up and tie neatly (I always make a mess with this bit!!). Place in a baking pan with plenty of garlic butter and bake until cooked through. When baked remove chicken from pan, and add to pan more butter, fresh garlic and any left over cheese and parsley. Warm over hot plate and add about half cup cream and allow sauce to thicken. To serve, drizzle chicken breasts with cheesy sauce. This is the first recipe I ever crafted and I think it’s probably my favorite thing ever because of that ❤️ It’s changed over the years. I first used canned evaporated milk but this past year or so I’ve started using more “real” foods in my cooking and whole milk has more frequently been found in my fridge and recipes. A few years ago I was dabbling in my wellness community, kind of in but not all the way in because of fear. Fear of failure and fear of opinions. I had some results but there was still things missing. Then I leaned in 100 percent and gave it my all. Let me tell you what I got back was so much more. A tribe that is positive, energetic, motivating, and inspiring. They make me want to be better, they push me. If you go all in you will get it in return, you get out what you put in. Into this business, your life, your fitness, your nutrition. Surround yourself with people who challenge you, who have dreams desires and ambitions, they will push you toward your own. Griffin was insistent on having a drink of my kombucha, to which I thought he would hate (kind of picky & kombucha is an acquired taste!) However, he loved it! I ended up putting some in a cup diluted with water & he sipped on it! . Gently offer your kids new things. Let them touch it, play around with it & you will be surprised. If they don’t take to it, try again. Griffin munched on a watermelon radish while I was preparing dinner & had I offered it formally at the dinner table, he would have picked over it. . Make the perfect Butter-Basted Rib Eye Steaks. 2 simple steps and less than 10 ingredients, means this recipe is the perfect way to start your weekend... and don't forget our Victorian Grass Fed Rib Eye on the Bone is still on special at $29.99kg! Ingredients Two 1 1/4-pound, bone-in rib eye steaks Kosher salt Freshly ground pepper 2 tablespoons canola oil 4 tablespoons unsalted butter 4 thyme sprigs 3 garlic cloves 1 rosemary sprig How to Make It Step 1 Season the rib eye steaks all over with salt and freshly ground pepper. Let the meat stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Step 2 In a large cast-iron skillet, heat the canola oil until shimmering. Add the steaks and cook over high heat until crusty on the bottom, about 5 minutes. Turn the steaks and add the butter, thyme, garlic and rosemary to the skillet. Cook over high heat, basting the steaks with the melted butter, garlic and herbs, until the steaks are medium-rare, 5 to 7 minutes longer. Transfer the steaks to a cutting board and let rest for 10 minutes. Cut the steaks off the bone, then slice the meat across the grain and serve. On the Road Again.... Trying to stay somewhat healthy and plant forward while enjoying time with family. Tonight I threw together a healthy vegan chili. Brought the BF’s family together and kept us warm on the inside and out 🥰. Recipe: 1. Peel 1 large sweet potato. Chop into bite size pieces. 2. Heat 1 tbs oil in large pot over medium heat. Add sweet potatoes and let cook for about 10 min. Stirring occasionally. 3. Chop 1 red pepper, 1 green pepper, 2 celery stalks, and 1 jalapeño pepper (use as much or as little jalapeño pith and seeds as desired for heat). Add to pot with sweet potato. 4. Let cook four about 10 mins. 5. Add 1 28oz can of diced tomatoes, 1 small can tomato paste. 6. Followed by the beans - use the liquid from the cans!!! 2 15oz can black beans, 2 15oz chick peas (aka garbanzo) beans, 1 15oz can chili (aka pinto) beans. 7. Season with 1 packet of low sodium chili seasoning, 1 tbs cinnamon, 1~3 tsp of red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. 8. Once combined let the chili come to a low boil or burble. Reduce the heat to low and cover. 9. Let cook on low for anywhere from 30 min to 2 hrs. 10. Let cool and serve with your favorite toppings (🥑,🌮,🧀).
