In today’s society, it sounds like everything is bad for you. 🍔🍕🍦🍩🍫 Sugar, meat, bread, diet soda, EVEN BANANAS! According to documentaries and magazines, everything is going to kill you. #amiright ?!. . Sometimes, these foods just sound good, and THAT IS OKAY. Yes, I am a dietitian and I am telling you IT IS OKAY to eat these things! Sometimes we find comfort in these foods or maybe have a good memory with some of them . . Nutrition can be so polarizing. We feel like we have to follow certain rules but for what? So we can have the perfect diet? Let me fill you in on a secret: ❌ The perfect diet doesn’t exist . . If we truly wanted perfect health, we’d walk everywhere instead of driving. We’d sleep 8 hours every single night. We’d eliminate all of the stress in our lives. But none of that is realistic, and neither is the perfect diet. . I am not advocating that you eat pizza and ice cream all day every day . It’s always wise to keep #fruits and #vegetables in mind and to #fuelyourbody . But never ever feel like you shouldn’t eat a certain food because of the #nutritionclaims you’ve been told. . Enjoying foods you love in moderation is never a bad thing, ESPECIALLY if they bring you joy, because we can all really use some joy right now. . Every food choice you make does not need to be in the pursuit of perfect health. That is setting yourself up for failure as we know there is no perfect way of eating. . IT'S OK TO CHANGE YOUR MIND # # ...about anything, including health and fitness.It has happened to me many times over the last 15 years. # # We see things from OUR perspective, through OUR lens, which is based on where WE are on our journey. # # Years ago I laughed at people who went to the gym because I thought: Why gym if you can get skinny running? # # 6-7 years later I said: Crossfit is THE workout, everyone should do that! (Remember the joke about how you know if someone does crossfit? They talk about it every single minute. Yep, that was me.) # # Then: Why do Crossfit or run if you could save so much time and burn the most fat doing HIIT? Everyone, do that! # # I've also been the Everyone Must Be Paleo and Everyone Has To IF gal. # # Then I got really overtrained because I did all the things above and never knew what moderation was. My take on exercise and eating habits changed 180 degrees. For the next few yeas, I thought that # # Any food restriction probably means dieting, and that’s no bueno. I rolled my eyes when someone said they have gluten intolerance. I thought they're finding excuses for dieting (and some people were). # # Anyone with a weight loss goal is obsessed. A lot of people really are, but not everyone! # # Exercising to change your physique is a bad goal. # # You can't like yourself and want to change your diet or your body. # # Today, I don't think any of the above is true because I finally see things from a balanced perspective. It's been a long ride to get to this place where I can see why people have certain goals, and not judge them. # # What I believe today: ✅Health should always be #1 priority. ✅It's possible to exercise regularly and not be obsessed with it. ✅It's possible to have a weight loss goal and not hate yourself. ✅No one should be shamed for their goals. ✅It’s ok to occasionally push yourself, as long as you actually recover from it. Health first. ✅Take all the rest days you want. ✅Different workouts have different purposes & give different results, but one type of workout isn't better than the other. ✅Same with diet. # # How have your thoughts on health & fitness changed over the years?

Feeling snackish? Looking for something to do today? Try these banana muffins 😽👉🏻 - 3 cups oats 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 2 tbsp pure maple syrup 1/4 cup honey 2 eggs 3 overripe bananas, mashed 1 cup milk 1/4 cup coconut oil 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease muffin pan with coconut oil or other non stick cooking spray In large bowl, combine dry ingredients (oats, cinnamon, salt, baking soda), set aside. In medium bowl, combine wet ingredients (maple syrup, honey, eggs, bananas, milk, coconut oil, vanilla). Add wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stir. Do not over mix. Fold in chocolate chips. Scoop batter evenly into muffin pan (makes about 12 muffins). Bake for 30 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Family outing. A family with five older kids took this picture for us. It was so fun seeing them all walking together— from an 18 year old down to (I’d guess) about 8, with Mom and Dad. Most wonderful of all? The Mom didn’t hesitate when I asked if they’d snap one for us. She didn’t put on gloves or caution her children to stand further away. We’re not to be foolish friends, but we’re also to not put fear before REAL kindness and humanity. Our already isolated and distant culture is cracking further in this time. Will you be a kind word? Will you be a calm presence? We are socially distanced 90% of the time, but when you come up for air (on a nature trail somewhere), be kind. Sure, give space, don’t hug anyone just yet, but walk in Today. CHANGE IS IN THE FOOD - Yes. Ayurveda teaches this in every aspect. 3. MODERATION - in everything you do. Eating, sports, working or whatever. Don’t overdo! Discipline yourself. 4. TRANSFORMATION IS HAPPENING NOW - whether it’s you body cells your mental state, your emotions or whatever. Everything changes all times. Now. 5. Home Gym Edition #flexfriday If anything that I've found during this strange time is that training has become like daily medication to me. If I don't take it, I'm definitely not the best person emotionally, mentally, spiritually I can be. Some days that's in the garage gym at 9pm. Some days that's 15k steps with my trusty 4-legged companion. Some days it's a long bike ride around the lake with my daughter. The easiest breakfast prep EVER. I made this this weekend and truthfully, it made enough for me to not only eat it for breakfast this week, but lunches too! No shame. I hope you love it as much as I do! And it 100 calories and loaded protein! INGREDIENTS: 1 carton egg whites (32 oz.) 1 package (20 oz) hash browns (if frozen, thaw them) 1 package (10oz) frozen peppers (thaw and drain them) 1 package (10oz) frozen onions (thaw and drain them) DIRECTIONS: Preheat your oven to 350. Grease a 9×13 pan, and add hash browns. Bake hash browns for 15 minutes (this step can be removed, it just makes the has browns crispy/not soggy). After the hash browns come out, spread your onion and pepper mix evenly on top. If you want to add cheese to this, here is where you’d add it! Add your egg whites on top! Season to taste. Bake for 50 minutes, or until golden brown. 💚SUITABLE FOR VEGANS 💚 The secret to making tofu taste good! Healthy tofu fajita, even if you're not vegan this fajita is so light and healthy and is definitely a must try! Ingredients 1 tbs oil for the veggies 1 onion sliced 1 garlic clove minced 1 tbs oil for the tofu marinate 1 block of firm tofu Mushrooms Colorful bell peppers red, Yellow, green You can add a can of black beans! Corn Lettuce or whole wheat wraps Homemade Guacamole Chili powder (optional) 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp ginger powder or fresh grated ginger 1 tsp cumin 1 tbs soy sauce Salt and pepper to taste Guacamole: 1 medium avocado mashed 2-3 tbs lemon juice Pinch of salt, black pepper and cumin 1 tomato finely dices and drained A bunch of coriander leaves How to make it: The secret to making tofu taste good is to use hard tofu, so use a tofu press or put something heavy on the tofu so it releases water(you want it hard not dry!). The other secret is to marinate your tofu before stir frying or oven baking. Stir fry you veggies, marinate your tofu with all the peppers and oil, you can stir fry them or bake them for 30min. Add the tofu to your vegetables, add the soy sauce and mix gently. Take some lettuce leaves put your tofu fajita, top with corn Guacamole and vegan cheese. Or roll them into wraps without the Guacamole and add vegan cheese then grill them. Enjoy!

I spend more time in the kitchen now as I am 👩🏼‍🍳 and baking more. Both processes make me feel relax and calm, they take my mind off with what is going on outside. It is a great therapy for me🤗 I was craving some sweet stuff recently and managed to come up with some recipe idea for flapjack with just few ingredients I had at home. Maybe you can give it a go too😉 I used about 140g of oats, 100g of dark chocolate, 2 tsp of honey and 1/2 glass of milk. I melted the chocolate, then added the honey and milk to it, and then used the mixture to cover the oats. I mixed everything well and then pressed the mixture down firmly in the tin. I left it to cool down overnight. ~ DONUTS ~ . The other day, I decided to make some sourdough cinnamon donuts and oh my, they were delicious!! . Donuts aren’t something that I would normally make, but I saw someone else make some from sourdough, so I did some googling and decided it would be a fabulous afternoon tea. Needless to say, everyone was thrilled! . The method that was used to make them has also given me some ideas to improve my sourdough hot cross buns from last year, which I plan to trial this weekend. . Happy Friday! Hope you’ve all survived the week and made the most of a little bit more time at home. Stay strong, stay positive and make the most of these times.

If you’re doing drugs every other week; that isn’t moderation. Consider how much your not-so-healthy habits cost your body then decide from there what moderation means to you.
