This is a repost stolen from mom_perspectives but I had to share because this is SO me...and I’m clearly not alone. I feel like I’m always at the opposite end of the spectrum with the summer body since I’ve had kids. I actually rarely exercise and I gain weight during the summer. I have a better bikini body in February than I have in July. This is because I’m busy not just taking care of my kids but spending time with them. I have other issues like exercise induced migraines that I won’t get into...but that’s another big reason I don’t exercise in the summer. I want to be present and not sick. But also....I love the flexibility of doing what we want when we want, eating ice cream and pizza with them...and whatever else causes me to gain weight during the summer. Lol! At this point, I’m convinced that breathing air makes me gain weight. Today is my last day of summer break with my youngest...so my summer mom bod will remain as is until Monday when he starts Pre K. Instead of crying into a bowl of ice cream after drop off...I’ll cry on the treadmill. Until then, I’m taking my kids to get some ice cream!! This is me and my mom, in the classic faded combo photo (what would you call that??) circa 1980. My mom has struggled with weight gain/loss/gain her whole life and often talks about her ups & downs, especially how she put on 50 lbs with each kid she had and didn't lose it afterwards. There are 5 of us kids 😬 I've been thinking a lot about how my worldview was shaped by her struggle with weight. I've also been trying to talk to my toddlers in non-negative ways about being healthy. It's such a tricky balance. I don't want to communicate shame or guilt, but I want to teach them to make healthy choices because it makes us feel great to be healthy. My mom talked very openly about how her weight affected her through the years but her personality is such that she always talked about it in a non-emotional, matter-of-fact sort of way so I don't think I internalized shame or guilt associated with weight. Definitely discontent, though. She has never felt happy in her own body. There's a whole subculture right now of women celebrating their bodies regardless of what they look like, which is awesome! But not entirely the whole picture. Choosing health is way more important than having a boosted self-esteem, or feeling confident in your body. I mean, those are great, but at the end of the day healthy habits are going to make a healthy and happy life. I'm starting to shift my mental processes and want to have a balanced approach. Yes! Be confident!! Yes! Be proud of this body that birthed 3 babies!! Yes! Love being tall!! But recognize that eating unhealthy foods directly affects physical AND mental happiness. We found when we started asking our clients to do less, they actually did more! Scheduling in a 10-15 minute workout doesn’t feel so out of reach and once the endorphins start flowing, they found they wanted to do more and just kept going! Finished a little Obsessed today with Leg🦵 Day! No matter how much "easier" this program is supposed to be leg day still gets ya! All the moves are directly from 80 day Obsession, so no break today. It felt good to work hard. I felt good to get my mind in the game and let it tell my body to GO! To💦 SWEAT and second guess💭, but also To remind myself I am STRONG, and to push through the doubt. Here's the truth. I don't fully "LOVE" my body. ⠀ ⠀ But, I accept it. ⠀ I accept it exactly the way it is, today. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't "unhappy" in 2011, I just had much different priorities. . 2011 Courtney (oh boy, lol)... My life looked a little like this - 1+ hr spent at the gym running and doing crunches, college classes, work, underage drink, and counting calories each day. I couldn't figure out why things weren't working when I was. . 2019 Courtney... 30 min online workout, work, mommy/wife roles, eat in moderation using my containers with truly never looking at calories. . I'm not sure about you, but I know the changes are working. And let me tell you, it's sooo much less stressful + more enjoyable to live this 2019 way. 7 M O N T H S 💪🏻 . . . At 31 I can finally say, I really appreciate my body! It grew two beautiful babies... growing them was tough as shit especially because I had HG, both times! Some days I thought “that’s it! I’m done” but as mommas we persevere! . . . I have off days too (... days that I’ll never punish myself for because we need them!). . . . Being a mom means feeding, bathing and peeing... LAST!... I’m ok with that ❤️ . . . Tips for less back pain! How do you live in your alignment? Most of us moms have a tendency to tuck our bums. Babies get heavy so prop them up on a hip(usually the same side) and tuck our bums under. ⠀ ⠀ Keep the booties behind ya ladies. The goal is to try and stack our ribs over our hips so it is a little more neutral. ⠀ ⠀ So those are our bumtuckers... now let’s talk about chest-thrusters. This is me lol. I’ve worked hard at getting the girl pointing horizontally. ⠀ ⠀ Check yourself out in the mirror.... do you see which one you are? ⠀ ⠀ Once you are able to have that awareness... small changes can make a big difference. ⠀ ⠀ One last tip. Change the side you are holding babe on frequently... you might not be able to hold your non dominant side for long but it will help with muscle imbalances. ⠀ Photo 1 is bumtuck, Photo 2 is chestthrust , and photo 3 is how we hold our kids 😬 Let me know.... which are you? My August order 🌿 I restocked on soaps, baby supplies, and Thieves. Trying out 🐶toothbrushes this month. Also started back to work after baby and am getting into a good workout routine. I’m BAAAAACK! 👋🏻🙌🏻 I never ever recommend losing your phone. Somehow, in this sleep deprived / fruit loop state ... from having a babe who wakes me up at least 6 times a night and from packing and moving our family in literally three days and unpacking, painting, cleaning, organizing and decorating since ... I somehow lost my phone somewhere in between walking out of Lowe’s to the car. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sadly no one turned it in so I have been without a phone for what feels like forever ... AKA 2 1/2 days. 🤪 In the midst of our insane lives lately, THIS happened! Phase ☝🏻 of my 💯 day commitment COMPLETE! 20 workouts ... 20-30 minutes a day, combo of cardio, heavy weights/low reps, low weights/heavy reps, fight club, HIIT, Pilates & barre 20 days of being laser focused on my simplified nutrition plan 20 days of my nutrient dense superfoods that taste like a milkshake 20 days of checking in with my gal pals in my virtual accountability group 20 days of going ALL IN on me! Y’all, I’m not exaggerating when I say these past few weeks have been some of the most exhausting and most stressful weeks of my life! Seriously. Typically, I would allow the exhaustion and allow the stress to swallow me whole, and I would raise my white flag while hiding in the corner binging on Arby’s and donuts. But NOT THIS TIME! I used all the craziness and stress as fuel to KEEP GOING. My routine of working out as soon as I put Copeland down for his first nap and keeping my rotation of simplified meals going, kept me sane because of the predictability. Everything else in our lives was all over the darn place, but keeping MY ME time sacred and holy helped me to not lose my damn mind throughout it all. Seriously. And as the days progressed, I could FEEL myself changing little by little. The biggest change ... my mindset! I’m back to once again viewing food as fuel for my body, not an all you can eat emotional buffet. I’m incredibly thankful for the honor and privilege to be ABLE to workout as I know it’s such a blessing to be physically able to do these workouts. ✌🏻 pelvic organ prolapse! Ten pounds gone, and I’m feeling much more confident and healthy!

I think when you crave something.. it’s your body’s way of telling you that you need to add something in your diet.. or, that you are missing something. . Now, if your craving doughnuts.. your body probably needs fuel. It’s probably craving carbs. . When I made this dinner.. my body was craving red meat. So, in moderation.. I included steak into my meal plans. . Within a few days.. the craving went away and I felt more energy... I think my iron was probably low.. which was also causing me to be more tired and cranky than usual.. haha! . I was looking through some pics from vacation this week and came across this one. I like posed photos, but candid shots are my favorite! This one captures how awesome I felt this week. I was content, confident, and strong AF— for a few years I was so insecure and unhappy in my body that I didn’t feel comfortable running around on the beach with my kids, and that breaks my heart. 😞 Fitness has made me a better person in so many aspects of my life, but most importantly, I’m a better mom.
